Renzo Martens wins the Amsterdam Art Prize 2015
30 August 2015
On August 27, 2015, artistic director of the Institute for Human Activities, Renzo Martens was awarded the Amsterdam Art Prize in the category Best Performance. The award includes a honorarium of € 35.000.
For Renzo Martens, the award from the city of Amsterdam is an important step to recalibrate art’s mandate: ‘’We are happy that Amsterdam, the biggest cacao harbour in the world, supports an institute that tries to make critique profitable in the poorest places on earth. As Congolese plantation workers can not live off palm and cacao plantations, they will now live off their artistic engagement with plantation labour.’’
